Emily Sayavong

Musician. Oboist. Conductor.

Emily Sayavong is a Laotian-American pursuing a degree in Music Education with a focus on conducting. Emily is studying classical Oboe and English Horn under Terri Knight, in addition to composition and conducting under Dr. Kaitlin Bove. In this setting, she has taken classes in Theory and Musicianship I-IV, Applied Music, Piano, Orchestration, and Composition. Emily offers music lessons on a variety of different instruments, matching an individual’s skill level and musical goals with her background and knowledge of musicianship.

Emily is based in the East Bay Area of California. Emily started her musical journey on the Flute before transitioning to the Saxophone and Oboe, where she now plays in various Flex Bands, Symphony Orchestras, and Wind Bands. Emily was awarded a scholarship to the Blue Devils Wind Symphony on Oboe. She is currently an active arranger and transcriber with works for symphonic orchestras and flexible bands, with works available on Sheet Music Direct and Sheet Music Plus. In the future, Emily hopes to pursue a doctorate in Wind Conducting.

Recreationally, Emily enjoys listening to music from a variety of different genres, from Post-Hardcore to Korean Folk to Spanish Experimental Trap. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, snacking, building Gundam, and playing Minesweeper.
